"Thanks" to Cancer

November 21, 2011

By Linda T. Gottlieb, MA, CPT, CET

This week our thoughts turn to giving thanks, and being grateful for our family, friends and health.

I have worked with many cancer survivors and heard from many more in blogs, and articles written and a familiar theme emerges. I call it "Thanks to Cancer...."

"Thanks to cancer I have realized the most important things in my life aren't things at all, but the people that surround me"... "Thanks to cancer I have changed my job and now do something I really love each day"... "Thanks to cancer I am now fitter than ever before and realize that exercise can help me heal."

LIFE: Juggling the balls.... Glass or Rubber?

Some of the balls are called health, fitness, work, money, family,
friends those you love and care for.

And you're keeping all of them in the air.

But one day you are diagnosed with cancer and come to understand that work, money, promotions, material things are rubber balls.

If you drop them, they can bounce back.

The other balls- health, fitness, family, friends and those you love and care for - are made of glass.

If you drop one of these, it will be scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered.

And once you truly understand the lesson, you will truly understand what's most important in your life.

Do you have a "Thanks to cancer" story? Please share it!
