Turn Summer SOFALIZING into Summer Fitness
July 6, 2011

I saw this new term in a magazine recently, and it made me laugh, then stop and think.
Sofalizing - (verb) "Visiting" friends from the comfort of your couch via laptop, tablet or Smartphone. OMG! It's the ultimate in couch potato-hood!
Ok, I'll admit I love using Skype to see my out of town clients, travelling friends and colleagues. Face time on your iPhone is a great tool to stay connected for parents, grandparents and kids away from home and for you to remain plugged in with your far away support system.
Even an "old school" phone can contribute to this phenomenon- but it's all sit and talk, sit and text, sit and voicemail.
But, I know lots of people (perhaps you do too?) that use these tools to communicate and stay in touch with folks that are in their same town, company or neighborhood. That's where this new thing, sofalizing, can get out of hand.
I suggest we all take advantage of old fashioned in person communication and turn summer sofalizing off and turn on beach walking and talking, galloping and gossiping and paddling and prattling! It will take anxiety off your to do list (exercise is the easiest way to manage the blues) as you whittle your waist (yours and your visitors.
Summer was made for socializing, for celebrating the change of seasons, good friends and moonlit nights. Abandon the sofa while you enjoy all the outdoor joy and fitness this season has to offer.
