Survivor's Compass

November 8, 2009

Kathryn Gurland is social worker, and she has had many family experiences with cancer. Both her sisters were diagnosed with cancer, and unfortunately, both died soon after their diagnoses. After those experiences, Kathryn started a consulting organization for cancer survivors. She has written an article for the Magazine, Women and Cancer, detaiing her 11 rules for cancer survivorship; she calls it the Survivor's Compass.

Her 11 rules are well-thought-out and they deal mostly with how to navigate active treatment and the period just after treatment, but the general principles she espouses are applicable to the entire survivorship experience.
